RSR - Chaplaincy Support Workers with the Royal Marines

Steve Cosslet CSW at CTCRMSteve Cosslett is a Chaplaincy Support Worker, at the Commando Training Centre Royal Marines (CTCRM). This is his story.

"I became a Christian in 1989, having gone to church all my life. My walk with God had its ups and downs but in 2000 I was baptised and for me began the opportunity to live my life, as best I could, for God. As with all of us, I am a work in progress, but I relish the opportunity to deepen my walk with God and serve Him wherever He may choose to send me.

I grew up in Torquay, Devon and worked as a Police Constable before attending Moorlands College to complete a BA (Hons) in Applied Theology. I graduated in June 2008 and am excited to be taking up my post with RSR to work with the Royal Marines at Lympstone. I am really looking forward to helping bring the love of God into the lives of those I will be supporting. What makes this role even more exciting is I am challenged to live out the gospel in my life as an example - the days are gone where we stand on a street corner Bible in hand preaching at people. We live in a time where consumer spirituality means many people treat Christianity as a choice amongst many other religions. However I do not lose hope because I wholeheartedly believe that as Christians we have a unique message which we can share just in the way we act. It is this message and the reality that when God calls He equips us, that gives me the confidence to take on this wonderful challenge. As Saint Francis of Assisi once said, "At all times preach the gospel, and if necessary use words". It is this thought I take into this new role.

My role with RSR is part time. The other half of my time I will be travelling around the country speaking and preaching about a future challenge I will be taking on. In 2009 my wife Helen, my daughter Nisha (born March 2008) and I will be going as missionaries to Mexico City, Mexico with OMS International to serve the people there. Helen will continue with some work we've been involved in with street kids and I will be involved in church planting, encouraging and empowering the national people to reach out to fellow Mexicans.

My family and I thank God for RSR and the opportunity they are giving me this year to serve God in this exciting way. Having met most of the RSR team and been made to feel so welcome at the recent RSR conference I already recognise it will be a challenge to move on in 2009 but God has been faithful to us providing us with this job and I give Him the glory for it.”
